About the job
The FSA is a non-ministerial department of over 1300 people, with a big vision – to drive change in the food system so that it delivers “food we can trust”. More than 90% of food and feed law in the UK currently comes from Europe and our primary goal is to continue to protect public health and UK consumers’ wider interest in food. As we have now exited the EU the FSA faces a significant period of change and activity.
An exciting opportunity has arisen in our Regulatory Compliance Division to lead a team to develop and implement a data driven approach to gaining assurance on the performance of local authorities and other bodies in delivering the checks and controls (official controls – inspections, audits, sampling etc) needed to ensure that food businesses are complying with food safety law.
Job description
If successful, you will be leading a team to help develop a forward-thinking approach to accessing and analysing data on all aspects of official control delivery by local authorities and other bodies to gain assurance that standards set by the FSA are being met and identify where this is not the case.
You will also be involved in establishing and implementing a programme of engagement with local authorities and other bodies to agree and monitor actions needed to secure performance improvements and to share identified good practice. In addition you will be involved in reporting and publication of performance data to ensure transparency; and developing appropriate mechanisms for ensuring that data and intelligence is used to inform ongoing review of the standards set for official control delivery and wider delivery policy.
We would love for someone to join the team who can challenge the accepted way of doing things, asking pertinent questions and coming up with fresh ideas to introduce more efficient and effective approaches. Someone who thinks strategically and sees the bigger picture, and someone who works well with others, inspiring them and getting their buy in to deliver a shared vision. If that’s you, then please do submit an application!
