Are you a practising lawyer who specialises in property law or a qualified legal lecturer/tutor who wants to move into an exam focused and non-teaching legal academic role? Our client designs and delivers world-leading professional assessments and is part of a leading global learning and assessment organisation. They are seeking a legal subject head, majoring in property law, to develop oral and written assessments for a new legal licensing examination. The programme of professional assessments will be taken up by 13,000 candidates per year.
In summary the role will:-
Lead in writing and commissioning oral and written questions and contribute to the selection of questions for formal assessments
Oversee the editing and quality process for developing assessment questions
Oversee the marking process for oral and written assessments
Review the statistical performance on the questions and take action to improve quality where necessary
Help to recruit and train freelance writers and examiners
Foster the engagement of practitioners, markers, freelancers, assessors and the regulatory body
You will join an existing and growing academic team comprises of academic leads and subject specialists. The employer offers a salary up to £65k on a permanent basis and the role is based at home within the UK with some travel to London and other assessment centres in the UK. The head office is based in London, N7.
You will need the following skills and experience: –
A professional qualification as a solicitor in England and Wales
Current knowledge of property law and practice
Demonstrable ability to use legal research sources proficiently and to understand assessment methodologies
Really strong team player able to build and maintain excellent working relationships with academic, support staff and freelancers
Excellent presentation and communication skills
Ability to respond positively when working under pressure when working to editing and production deadlines
The client would be particularly interested if you have had any experience of any of the following: –
Experience of writing, marking and editing QLTS or other professional legal assessments
Teaching and examining law or have written or marked legal assessments//
Experience of leading and managing teams
Knowledge of assessment methodologies
Other areas of legal specialisms including criminal litigation, dispute resolution, wills and probate and business law
