We’re looking for a Regional Broking Director to Join our Retail Broking Team to drive the UK Corporate Broking Strategy in to the day to day broking activity of their Area and be the most effective broker in the market, based on professionalism, client focus and team working.

The Broking Director has specific accountability for the broking of the portfolio of clients within their designated Area, for ensuring data is updated correctly and on time and for the management and development of the broking staff (Broking Managers) reporting to them.

The role also has supervisory responsibility for the broking aspects of the Client Project Manager and Client Service Advisor roles.

About the Role

Your impact as Regional Broking Director – North:

Key Accountabilities:

• Implement the Corporate Broking Strategy and procedures
• Contributes to and has a clear understanding of the broking strategy
• Communicates the broking strategy to Aon staff and ensures a common understanding.
• Monitors the implementation of the broking strategy and procedures and intervenes where appropriate, in particular in connection with FCA regulated processes
• Contributes to the Corporate Broking Executive
• Manage all broking activities for portfolio of clients
• Works together with colleagues in Corporate to ensure that clients’ business is placed with the appropriate insurers at appropriate terms and that Aon is never out-broked
• Develop/maintain relationships with clients and prospects where appropriate
• Where responsibility for broking is delegated to Client Project Managers, Client Service
• Advisors and other staff, ensure this takes place under appropriate supervision and in accordance with the broking strategy and procedures
• Work with Corporate to ensure data is input including all marketing, to produce effective benchmarking reports
• Manage trading relationships with insurers
• Support the activities and actions agreed with insurers centrally, particularly facility insurers and develop local activity plans where appropriate
• Work with insurers, managing their expectations

Demonstrate the right behaviours around professionalism and treating insurers fairly

• Communicate to insurers the Aon broking strategy and procedures so they have a clear understanding of where decision making and responsibility lies in Aon, and vice versa.
• Become involved in problems and issues relating to insurers as and when required.
• Maintain effective relationships with Global Broking and other Aon broking units so that a high quality service is delivered to clients

Analyse the insurance market and brief all Corporate staff as appropriate

• Ensure that client managers and other staff have all the relevant information on which to base their advice to clients
• Contribute to the maintenance of the insurer database in a timely manner
• Manage the expectations of colleagues and clients in terms of insurance market conditions
• Ensure that all relevant staff are kept up to date with general guidance on programme design
• Ensure that all client managers understand and communicate the value proposition of the broking function, such that they can negotiate appropriate fees from the clients
• Monitor the quality of broking submissions in conjunction with the Corporate leadership

Improving the quality and efficiency of the broking process

• Liaise closely with appropriate colleagues in Corporate to ensure that broking deadlines are met
• Monitor the appropriate suite of key performance indicators for the broking function and take the appropriate steps to improve quality and efficiency
• Support a culture of continuous improvement throughout the broking function, and in partnership with Client Management, Business Development and Client Service colleagues
• Embrace and learn from Aon’s investment in Client First Servicing techniques

People Management

• Manage a team of broking managers through coaching, development and performance management, ensuring completed objectives with supporting personal development plans in place
• Ensure all team members attend relevant personal development courses in line with their role
• Attract, develop and retain talented individuals in line with business plans
  Work with the head of broking to develop and maintain succession plans for all roles within the team
• Work with the Corporate Board to develop a working environment where people are positive, motivated and enthusiastic
• Work with the Corporate CEO to improve key ‘cultural’ characteristics of the Corporate business: enthusiasm, client focus, innovation, accountability

Compliance with regulatory requirements and business procedures

• Responsible for working in accordance with the Aon UK Limited Risk Management Framework, and compliance with the Aon UK Limited policies, including participation in the management of risks (including completion of mandatory training) that may adversely affect the business, interests or reputation of any Group Company
• Promote all compliance related requirements throughout the broking team and identify opportunities for process improvement.
• Take primary responsibility for ensuring staff awareness and conformances to all compliance related requirements, such as BiPar.
• Lead by example by ensuring own activity complies with regulatory requirements and business procedures
• Encourage staff to be actively involved in raising awareness of non-conformance and ideas for improvement

About you

Your knowledge and expertise:

• ACII/FCII preferred
• A thorough knowledge of commercial insurance market practices and
  Dynamics including an understanding of the financial issues that drive the market
• The ability to work effectively with colleagues in an environment where
  success often depends on influencing skill rather than direct control
• Analytical / logical
• An effective and reasonable negotiator with an understanding of the
  importance of sustainability
• An effective listener and a strong, consistent communicator
• Confidently articulate Aon’s strategy
• Acts with the highest integrity and professional standards
