The Role & Our Team

If so, our Senior Project Support Officer roles are a great opportunity to support multiple priority projects within BEIS! For example, you could contribute to delivering creative climate change solutions, building future economic partnerships with other nations or implementing the UK industrial strategy.
Our project delivery community includes colleagues who work on delivering change through projects, programmes and portfolios. Our varied team consists of professional project and programme managers, project specialists e.g. Risk Managers, PMO Managers, Governance, Reporting Managers and PMO Support. We often collaborate with colleagues from other professions such as policy, analysis, digital, continuous improvement, finance, HR, commercial and legal.
• Stakeholder Management – ensure responsibilities and needs are understood and addressed in reporting arrangements. Develop peer networks across the department.
• Risks and Issues – identify threats to delivery, working with risk managers to monitor and evaluate risks. Manage reporting on issues and risks as appropriate.
• Delivery & Leadership – lead on planning activity and work with the project to support delivery of the business case benefits and outcomes. Encourage the use of good practice in planning and reporting. Provide expert advice for team members and project community.
• Building Capability – use your project delivery experience and knowledge to provide guidance and support to colleagues.
• Knowledge Management – ensure that all programme information and metrics are up to date and accurate.
• Planning and scheduling – challenge and test project assumptions to ensure that plans are realistic and achievable. Support the project manager to identify options to optimise delivery through resource smoothing, resource levelling and rescheduling of activities. Develop the breakdown structures, quality criteria, product descriptions and monitoring strategy.
• Monitoring and reporting – maintain project controls and support teams to prepare project performance reports. Constructively challenge colleagues (including at senior level) as required.
• Governance – support function of various boards and forums on behalf of the programme and projects. Act as a lead point of contact for governance and reporting.
• Communication – lead on briefings to senior colleagues ahead of attending governance boards.
We are looking for someone who:
• has been involved in the delivery of projects and understands project methodologies. For example, around planning, stakeholder engagement, governance, managing risks, issues and benefits.
• has knowledge and previous experience of successfully supporting colleagues to deliver projects.
• enjoys building and improving relationships with others, keeping those who need to know aware of emerging issues and trends within the project.
• can plan and coordinate complex workloads, prioritising and delivering outputs in a fast-paced and changeable working environment.
• has effective interpersonal skills, written and verbal communication skills, presentation and collaborative team-working skills
We will help you achieve a relevant qualification in post if you don’t have one. However, it would be an advantage if you have a recognised accreditation in professional project management such as: PRINCE2 Practitioner, Managing Successful Programmes Practitioner or APM Practitioner Qualification.

Selection process details
This vacancy is using Success Profiles , and will assess your Behaviours, Strengths, Experience and Technical skills.
