Our client is looking for an experienced Local Authority Principal Accountant on a contract basis.
We have a Principal Accountant role in the Chief Accountant’s Team at the London Borough of Haringey which we are recruiting to. This post is key to supporting the Chief Accountant and Deputy Chief Accountant in maintaining the integrity of the Council’s accounts, and producing the Statement of Accounts each year.
This role is to work alongside the two other principal accountants on the Implementation of the IFRS 16 – Capital Lease Accounting, Chart of Accounts maintenance, revenue and Balance Sheet Accounting. The Principal Accountant has a high degree of responsibility and autonomy for how they approach the workload in their areas: including the design and preparation of working papers, and managing audit queries within their areas. The Principal Accountant works closely with the Chief Accountant and Deputy Chief Accountant to ensure that the Council’s financial reporting processes, procedures and policies are pragmatic, fit for purpose, up to date with best practice, and deliver maximum value to the Council.
This role is expected to last for at least 6 months (and possibly beyond 9 months as depending on how quickly we can recruit to a permanent role) as we’d need to cover the 21/22 year-end Closure and audit of accounts for 2021/22 (which is not expected before the summer of 2022).
The coverage and exposure to different areas of the Council’s financial reporting makes this role a fantastic opportunity for an exceptional individual who wants to further their career and has aspirations to be a future Head of Finance or Chief Accountant. The Council’s finance team is structured to allow for career progression and we are deeply committed to the professional development of our staff. With all this in mind, we think this is an excellent opportunity, and would welcome your application.
You will be a technical expert who enjoys, and has a flair for, financial accounting. You will be a natural problem solver, with excellent excel skills, and a desire to constantly strive for improvements in all areas of work. This role involves line managing and supervising other members of the Chief Accountant’s Team, so we are also looking for an individual who enjoys team building and helping more junior staff achieve their goals and develop their skills. Prospective applicants should be qualified or actively studying towards CCAB qualifications.
PLEASE only apply if you have the necessary skills, experience and expertise. The first part of our recruitment process is to send your CV. Colbern Limited along with our clients are an equal opportunities employer
