Your new companyWe are delighted to representing a leading international law firm in their search to recruit and ambitious Construction Solicitor to join their team in Belfast. The Construction practice in London is ranked Band 1 by Chambers & Partners and Tier 1 by the Legal 500.Our Client’s Construction offering includes a multi-sector, full-service capability, advising on project structuring and delivery, risk analysis and management, tendering and procurement, contract drafting and negotiation, transaction due diligence, and, in conjunction with our specialist contentious construction team, claims management and dispute resolution.Your new roleIn your new role you will work closely with Senior Solicitors, supporting them on fee-earning matters, including briefing and supervising Trainees and Legal Analysts. You will undertake the more complex reviews, drafting and negotiations across a range of deal types, transactions and projects within Finance.You will also be expected from time to time, to step up and lead projects or specific work-streams on a mandate, supervised by Senior Solicitors and/or the ALT Construction Manager, who will support as necessary.In this role, you will work closely with the non-contentious construction teams in Belfast and London, supporting primarily on non-contentious construction work, including supporting on transactional due diligence, advising on procurement and supporting with contract preparation/management of deliverables.Whilst the main focus of the role is on the non-contentious side, you will also be expected to provide support on the contentious construction aspects as and when required, depending on business needs and capacity and under appropriate supervision.What you’ll need to succeed #
Qualified solicitor in England and Wales or Northern Ireland, but Republic of Ireland or other common law jurisdictions will be considered. (If not qualified in England and Wales then willing to complete process to requalify as such, if required). Minimum of 1 + years’ PQE, the majority of which should be non-contentious construction experience, unless exceptional circumstances exist. If you do not meet the PQE requirement, but feel that exceptional circumstances are applicable to you, then you will be required to submit a supporting statement outlining why you are an exceptional candidate (including relevant skills and experience) – i.e. you have spent a significant amount of time undertaking Construction work, during or prior to your training contract/qualification. Proven non-contentious construction experience, including standard forms of construction contract (e.g. JCT, FIDIC and NEC). Some contentious construction experience, including adjudication work, would be highly desirable.
