Barking Riverside London will feature healthcare, schools, open space, public squares, new rail and river connections into central London, up to 65,000 sq.m. of commercial floor space including shopping, community and leisure facilities. It will be the new model for the great estates in London, with residents at its heart
Most excitingly, there is an ambition to connect a new generation of Londoners to the River Thames and to design and deliver facilities, services and projects on the river frontage to create a new night-time economy in this part of the borough.
As one of the largest developments in the UK, this ambitious project is gaining momentum with a programme committed to facilitating delivery of up to 600 new homes a year for the next 15 years.
As Master Developer Barking Riverside is responsible for taking forward and coordinating all aspects of the design and development process as well as implementing the infrastructure works to transform the former power station site into a high quality development and help build a thriving, healthy community.
We are looking for a high performing Deputy Managing Director to support the growth of the business.
This is a new opportunity to play a leading part in the development of BRL’s business strategy for the next 15 years. This will be a challenging role that will be highly rewarding and high-profile. Reporting to the Managing Director of BRL, you will help the MD and the Board set the strategic direction, vision and plan, working closely with the other Deputy MD to support the wider business.
You will take ownership for maintaining financial strength at BRL and work with a team of Directors to manage all financial, legal and business support aspects of the business operations, controlling and reporting on financial and legal matters to the MD and the BRL Board.
You will have experience of working at a strategic level with the commercial and financial acumen to manage a substantial budget. You should be comfortable working at board level and have the confidence to bring forward creative business strategy ideas for this unique site. You will need first class problem-solving abilities, be a first-rate communicator and presenter, with well-rounded analytical and interpersonal skills. In addition, effective business planning skills, budgetary control and an exceptionally high level of computer literacy (Excel and Word) are required.
This is a pivotal role supporting the MD to produce and deliver strategies that recognise the complex nature of this project and the partners involved. The strategies will need to reflect the shareholders and partners ambitions and be deliverable within challenging market and world economics. You will need to come with an open mind and be ready to learn about the unique challenges of the business in a challenging development environment and be prepared to strategise on a range of business matters that may go beyond normal development areas.
A track record, therefore, of supporting senior decision makers acting similar to general counsel on all business matters will be essential to success in this new and exciting role.
Essential for the role will be:
· Demonstrable experience of leading on and delivering change in a commercial, resident and customer-focused environment.
· Demonstrable experience of developing creative strategy for business in the development sector.
· Demonstrable experience and an ability to source, negotiate and deliver new investment and partnerships.
· Demonstrable experience of advising at a senior level on a range of business areas.
· Track record of influencing board-level stakeholders and the personal impact and confidence to challenge in a positive and controlled way.
· Experience of working and leading a team of senior Directors with the ability to build confidence and loyalty as part of a team.
· Track record of representing the organisation, preferably as a sector leader, at all levels including government bodies, auditors and councils etc. building effective networks and working relationships.
· Thorough understanding of the housing, land, property, local government or central government sector and political stakeholder management, as well as evidence of adapting learning from the commercial sector.
· Qualified Accountant with a strong academic record.
· Experience of management or financial accounting in a corporate entity.
· Experience of JV structures, commercial deals, new business and Board reporting.
Your ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders will enable you to make the best use of L&Q resources and support the wider group strategy.
