The Medical Assistant Apprentice is a training position who functions alongside a mentor and not meant to function independently. The apprentice will assist providers and the care team in the care of patients, promoting a smooth flow of patients through the office and help to create a calm, supportive atmosphere. The Apprentice will only perform set skills that they have been completed in their skills lab with a passing grade and are qualified to perform alongside a mentor. These skills will include clinical and clerical duties as necessary to care for patients. They will be required to pay attention to details and accuracy, conduct all interactions with patients and personnel in a courteous and respectful manner while maintaining confidentiality. The Apprentice is require to conduct all responsibilities consistent with policies, procedures, and in compliance with all applicable laws o mandates relating to patient care and activities.
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
Education: High school diploma preferred or equivalent. Must be accepted and enrolled into the Southern Maine Community College Medical Assisting Apprenticeship Program. Throughout the Apprenticeship, all courses including Skills Lab must pass with a grade of C or above in order to remain in the Apprentice program.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills necessary for interacting with patients, providers, leaders, and other staff with the ability to demonstrate compassion and caring in dealing with others.
