ocation: The Johnson Building, London, or Waterfront House, Nottingham, with flexibility to work from home for part of the week.
Looking for your next challenge that combines working with senior politicians and being the go-to person on the biggest public policy issues of the day? Then this is the role for you.
At MTVH, we believe everyone should have a home and the chance to live well. We are a leading not-for-profit housing association, providing around 58,000 homes in London, the South East, and East Midlands, alongside a range of care and support services.
We are looking for an exceptional public affairs and policy professional to join our team, who has a strong track record of influence and insight.
Working as part of a team of three, reporting to the Assistant Director of Corporate Affairs (Public Affairs & Policy) and having line management of the Public Affairs Executive, this role sits at the heart of an impactful and dynamic team.
You will be developing and managing our work to utilise public affairs and policy best practice to engage and influence stakeholders on the issues that matter to both residents and the organisation.
This varied role will see you work with colleagues across the organisation to build relationships with external stakeholders, interpret and influence public policy in the interests of the residents we provide homes for as well as the organisation, and bring first-class political insight into decision-making and positioning.
You might begin your day working out what the latest Politico Playbook means for MTVH, before leading a conversation with subject experts in the organisation on the latest consultation from government, and then devising an engaging visit for a group of local councillors in one of the communities we serve.
With unique access to the Chief Executive and senior colleagues, public affairs sits at the centre of the organisation, helping us to shape and respond to some of the biggest issues in housing and to challenges facing the residents we provide homes for.
You will be the point person for consultation responses, briefings, stakeholder updates, and will contribute to the delivery and commissioning of innovative research. Working with the wider Corporate Affairs Team, you will also help shape our external and colleague communications activity.
MTVH is currently Chair of the G15 group of leading housing associations. This role will be crucial in supporting the organisation to fulfil its responsibilities as Chair, which include liaising with the most senior levels of government and sector partners.
What you’ll need to succeed
At least three years experience of working in a public affairs, policy, or research officer role, ideally within the housing sector or similar relevant area.
Track-record of producing briefings, reports, consultation responses, and recommendations to aide decision-makers.
Proven ability to understand, interpret, and analyse varied reports and data, and to present complex issues and data to a range of audiences with impact.
Excellent communication skills, including written and interpersonal communication skills.
A strategic mind-set and ability to see the bigger picture.
Experience of leading and contributing to projects that cut across different issues and the ability to work with external partners.
Experience of producing, commissioning, and using policy research to support public affairs activity.
Strong passion and knowledge of current affairs and politics.
Ability to develop clear and succinct messaging from complex material.
Experience of working with senior leaders and decision-makers.
You will be someone who works collaboratively at all levels to solve problems, develop solutions, and deliver positive outcomes. You will have drive and energy, and be prepared to find new and better ways of doing things. An ability to appreciate a range of views and opinions, and to offer advice to suit varying situations and needs is crucial. Likewise, a strong commitment to promoting equality, diversity and inclusion is a must.
Regular days working in the office with the team are crucial, alongside the flexibility to work from home and in our communities too for part of the week.
MTVH operates from two main offices in London and Nottingham. We are open to this role being based in either office. The salary band if London based is £43,740-£46,042 or £39,366-£41,438 if Nottingham based.
