JOB SUMMARY

This position accepts the responsibility and accountability for the delivery of patient care during the cardiology patients’/families’ stay through the use of the nursing process.  Directs patient/family education and delegates to ancillary personnel while maintaining professional nursing standards. 

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

A.  Education:

Graduate of a program in professional nursing, BSN preferred Current RN licensure in the state of Iowa.

B.  Experience

Demonstrated competence and knowledge of general, intensive, and critical care nursing theory and practice as evidenced by a minimum of one year of emergency, cath lab, interventional radiology or critical care experience or two years cardiac step-down experience preferred. Knowledge and competence in Intra-Aortic Balloon pump, hemodynamics and vasoactive infusions is preferred.

C.  Special Skills, Competencies, and Aptitudes

Ability to work flexible hours, including flexibility with daily starting and ending times. Must have proficient computer skills.

    3.   Must provide proof of Basic Life Support (BLS Healthcare Provider, American                   Heart Association; or American Red Cross, Professional Rescuer-LIVE class only)               via current card prior to employment or within 30 days of hire and maintains current            status.

Completes Mandatory Reporting requirement within 6 months of hire and renews this requirement every 5 years. Completes Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – American Heart Association within 30 days of hire and maintains current status.  Completion of Mercy Critical Care courses (ECCO), or an equivalent, is required in first year of hire. Ability to meet on-call requirements. Must pass Cardiac Dysrhythmia exam on yearly basis to maintain competency.
