The Registered Nurse In Charge ensures all aspects of care follow the unit based structure standards. Demonstrates clinical proficiency in all procedures within scope of practice, as appropriate to the ages of the patients assigned; the ability to obtain information and interpret information in terms of the patient’s needs; knowledge of growth and development and an understanding of the range of treatment needed by these patients. The Nurse in Charge must demonstrate expertise in the care and treatment of patients in the Medical Surgical setting.

License/Certifications: Active nursing license, BSN preferred. Current BCLS required for all. ACLS required for critical care departments. Other certifications specific to department policies may be required.
Experience: Minimum of five years acute care experience required and at least two years of charge nurse experience
Knowledge of nursing processes; structure and functions
Knowledge of chart/medical record documentation and terminology requirements and federal/state laws related to release of health care information
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills necessary for interacting with patients, physicians, supervisors and other staff
Skill in time management, problem solving, multitasking, prioritizing and medical care coordination
Ability to respond the changing workload based on patient census and to direct, supervise and evaluate care in order to individualize nursing care provided to patients
Ability to maintain professional manner even under stressful situations
