Itero is a cleantech company focusing on commercialising a waste plastic chemical recycling technology. Via this innovative technology, Itero captures waste plastic destined for landfill or incineration, and converts it into chemical feedstock for the plastic and fuels industry, thereby closing the loop of the plastic circular economy. As part of the role you will be working in a with a small team in Borough, London & Iver, Buckinghamshire to help in the delivery our first commercial chemical recycling plant to the market in the Netherlands, and to help develop the company business model. The role will require occasional travel (mainly to other parts of the UK).
The Mechanical Design Engineer role is focused on finalising the development of the core pyrolysis technology and supporting development of ancillary technologies. The role requires an individual to quickly integrate themselves into the design team and enhance the detailed design and design for manufacture of Itero’s technologies. This will require a proactive and hands-on approach to problem solving with the ability to work independently and as a team.
Having experience in mechanical design with engineering materials and various manufacturing methods, the ideal candidate will be involved in the full life cycle design, development and manufacture of Itero’s novel technology with the aid of CAD, CAM, CAE and FEA tools.
As part of an interdisciplinary team, the Mechanical Design Engineer will be able to finish projects in budget and on schedule, delivering simple and effective solutions.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Using CAD & CAE, complete the detailed design and resolve any existing mechanical design items of Itero’s technology.• Generation of part models and assembly drawings using CAD, as well as tooling for assembly aids/fixtures, ensuring design and manufacturing feasibility with production partners.• Work closely with the whole Itero Team, liaising with supplier, third party design engineers and manufacturers to deliver the Itero technology.• Constant support of the production engineering function to overcome day to day product changes and quality issues.• Work to ISO standards.• General engineering administrative tasks and development of scope of work for third party engineering consultants.• Source suitable materials and components for bespoke product development.• Planning and coordination of production engineering processes to ensure projects are delivered on time, to standard and to budget.• Help identify areas of improvement, new systems, processes and suppliers to drive quality, efficiency and save costs.• Stay current with product specifications, engineering technology and production processes.• Create product sales images and 3D animations• Support for all mechanical design functions of the R&D facility.• Identification of suitable design consultancy and manufacturing partners to help deliver the technology.• Continuation of the design process to liaise with third parties during the detailed design and manufacture of the technology.
• HNC or degree qualified in a production or design engineering discipline with 5+ years’ experience in a manufacturing industry.• Mechanical essential but electrical knowledge would be useful.• Proficiency with CAD, and preferably Inventor Professional, AutoCAD and 3DS Max.• Familiarity with pyrolysis technologies or process plants is advantageous.
• Broad experience of engineering and design processes.• Broad knowledge of various instrumentation and their applications• Ability to understand geometric tolerances for machined components and fabrication.• Mechanical and Thermal FEA experience.• Experience in designing systems/assemblies for high temperature environments• Experience working on large complex CAD models and systems• Able to develop component design through CAD and push that forward through to manufacture.• Ability to review and improve existing product designs.• Experience working in an R&D environment• Experience taking ownership/Leading projects is desirable• Experience with fabrication, welding and modern machining methods.• Able to produce detailed drawings (preferably to BS8888 standards) for manufacture.• Flexible and keen to assist in a variety of ways on a variety of projects.• Proven ability to build and work collaboratively in a small team environment.• Proactive approach to work and problem solving, suggesting new ideas with a strong “Can Do” attitude.• Highly fluent in English and effective communication at all levels.• Clean Driving License and willingness to travel to meet with suppliers and partners where necessary.
